This watercolor painting study tries to capture the thousand-petaled lotus flower. The thousand-petaled lotus flower is associated with the crown chakra and achieving the totality of one's self or mastery. In paintings, it symbolizes the gradual process that one goes through as one slowly awakens.
On the internet and social media, we always see the finished, polished masterpieces. We're told to show perfection to the world and "fake it until you make it" if we're not perfect. As a result, we don't see how it's taken a thousand steps, many of them stumbling, between the first step and mastery.
Doing the thirty paintings in the thirty-day challenge is forcing me to show all of the steps I'm taking to grow as an artist. Learning to embrace the path to mastery is what I'm learning. I'm not hiding my stumbles and successes because the painting I'm proud of today will make me cringe later if I continue to grow. When I see the lotus flower studies, I remind myself of the power that comes from unapologetically showing the world who you are, imperfections and all, and moving forward despite what happens.
